In honor of the upcoming mid-season premier of the “Walking Dead”, I am dedicating this week’s Throwback Thursday to the summer day I spent in Alexandria and Woodbury!

Since I was going to be in Atlanta for the week I decided to make a day trip to Senoia, GA (an hour south of Atlanta) to experience the world of the “Walking Dead”!

I am a HUGE “Walking Dead Fan” so imagine my excitement as I drove into Senoia for the first time and seeing the town of Woodbury. I was expecting for the Governor to be looking down from one of the building or a walker to come out of one of the buildings!

Since I was touring in July, heavy tourist season, I decided to purchased a ticket to a walking tour of the city off of Viator prior to arriving. My walking tour didn’t start until 2 pm and I arrived in Senoia at 11 am. I opted to get something to eat before my tour started so I headed over to ‘Nic and Normans’ which had just recently opened. ‘Nic and Normans’ is a new restaurant that opened in downtown Senoia by Greg Nicotero & Norman Reedus (Daryl). It is a very POPULAR restaurant and reservations are recommended. I was told by one of the ladies waiting outside that there was a two hour wait but since I was traveling by myself that day, I was seated right away (one of the perks of traveling solo)!

After my meal I was ready for my “Walking Dead” tour which was hosted by the Georgia Mercantile Company. One of the great things about the tour was that my tour guide looked exactly like Rick Grimes! The tour was very fun and I learned a lot about the town of Senoia and they had great tidbits on the “Walking Dead” filming locations. We toured Woodbury, walked on the train tracks to Terminus and walked by the walls of Alexandria. It was a very surreal experience to see Alexandria, I wanted so baldy for Glenn to be walking around.

Senoia has some very awesome shops that offer great “Walking Dead” merchandise. The Woodbury Shoppe and the Walking Dead café are located on the main street and both offer great merchandise for fans to pick up. A great bonus was the exhibit that the Woodbury Shoppe had in their basement.

Senoia is a beautiful town and has been used to film popular TV shows and movies. In addition to the “Walking Dead” films such as Driving Miss Daisy, Fried Green Tomatoes, Drop Dead Diva and the current remake of Footloose. If you are in the Atlanta area make sure to stop on by, you will not be disappointed!
