Navajo traveling sisters travel tip #3 is all about backing up your travel documents – copy all your documents.
Beside the four of us, the one constant travel companion that goes everywhere on our travels is our trusty travel binder. This binder houses our itinerary, travel confirmations (flight, lodging, car rental), attraction vouchers, maps, and important info. When we are traveling abroad we have a section for our passports and US embassy information.
Technology is very useful but sometimes it doesn’t always work so we keep paper copies of everything. Things we make copies of:
- Airline confirmation
- Hotel/hostel/lodging confirmations
- Vouchers
- Maps
- Addresses – always print out the addresses you are staying at and if traveling abroad, the US embassy info.
This past fall we wanted to do high tea in London and we purchased our tickets for it. After a morning of traveling from Paris to London and settling into our accommodations, we set off to our high tea time. When we arrived to the café we were informed that they didn’t have a reservation for that specific time. Luckily, we printed out our confirmation that showed the date and time of our booking. Since we were on a tight schedule they were able to honor the tickets since it was an oversight on their part.
If you are traveling abroad it is important to make a copy of your passports ID page. Make two copies of the passport ID page – give one to a person you trust back home and keep another in your luggage, preferably in your carry-on (away from your passport). If your passport is lost or stolen, you will have the information needed to report it and get it replaced.
We hope these tips help as you go on your adventure!
I find keeping physical copies of travel documents very reassuring.
