Navajo Traveling Sisters – Travel Tip #4: Be Kind and Respectful

Navajo Traveling SistersTravel Tips! (10)Navajo Traveling Sisters travel tip #4 is all about kindness and respect. Remember when you travel, you are a guest of the places you visit. It is important to be considerate of the places you visit.

Kindness goes along way. Be kind to the people you meet. We always try to learn phrases of the local language. Locals appreciate this and are more receptive to you. Always say, “thank you”, to the people who help you. When we were in London we did a day tour of the countryside. Our tour guide was very nice and very informative of the places we visited and she also knew the area we were staying at. We respected her and appreciated the knowledge she was sharing. At the end of the day she even guided us to the right train station to return to our Airbnb.

Try and research the places you visit to learn about the local customs – be respectful of those customs. In 2016, we did a two week tour of Italy, where we visited a lot of church’s. When we researched the places we would be visiting we found that most of the church’s had a dress code – modest dress: skirts/dresses below the knee and shoulders had to be covered. As it came time to pack for the trip, we knew what to expect and we made sure we packed the appropriate clothing for the places we would be visiting. On our stop to the Vatican, we saw a group of people as we were exiting, being turned away because of they were wearing – shorts and tank tops.

The world is a beautiful place full of amazing people with incredible languages and cultures. Go out and explore!
